About the Compress PDF

PDFs balloon in size almost entirely because of embedded images — a scanned document saved at print resolution, or a report with uncompressed screenshots pasted in, can easily hit tens of megabytes even though the text content itself is negligible. Most email providers cap attachments around 20-25MB, and plenty of web upload forms are stricter still.

This tool re-compresses the embedded images inside the PDF (down-sampling resolution and applying lossy compression where it won't be visually obvious) while leaving the document structure and text intact, which is the difference between compression that actually shrinks a PDF meaningfully versus just re-saving it. It's most useful right before emailing a scanned document or uploading a report to a portal with a strict file-size limit.
